The Mosaic Transformation
The Beginning
Originally created as a steel peace sculpture by Fred George in 2010, the work entered a new chapter in 2021 when Fred and Andrea Muller began developing its mosaic transformation together.
Inspired by the colorful ceramic mosaics of Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona, they explored patterns, colors, and materials, arranging the full-scale sections in the garden as the designs gradually took shape.
What began with Gaudí's influence evolved into a distinctive visual language of their own.
Developing individual mosaic compositions through color, pattern, and materials.
Applying mosaic compositions directly to the monumental steel structure.
An Unexpected Idea
As the mosaic designs evolved, Phoenix, the young son of Fred's longtime friend, suggested adding LEGO figures to the sculpture.
His spontaneous idea inspired a new creative direction. Miniature characters and playful scenes became part of the mirrored compositions, bringing small moments of storytelling and discovery to the monumental artwork.
What began as a child's suggestion became a distinctive part of the sculpture's visual identity.
